Last month I got seduced by an Instagram post. It was a picture of Gwyneth Paltrow looking gorgeous doing yoga in the sunshine. And drinking a bright orange drink, which turned out to be GOOPGLOW Morning Skin Superpowder.
At the time the weather was wet and miserable and my skin wasn’t faring much better. So the thought of a superpowder being able to transform my skin and, who knows, bring some sunshine with it, was just too tempting.
Top that off with the (admittedly unrealistic) expectation that it would turn me into a yoga-practising goddess and I was sold!
So what exactly is GOOPGLOW Morning Skin Superpowder?
The superpowder is a food supplement with Vitamin C and E, COQ10, Lutein, Zeaxanthin and grape-seed proanthocyandins. Basically a lot of big words! Apparently, according to the box, it is designed to contribute to healthy skin. You mix it with water and drink as part of a healthy morning skin ritual.
GOOPGLOW was developed to provide nutritional support for healthy skin and its antioxidant systems. The various vitamins within it support both the collagen synthesis which contributes to the normal function of the skin, as well as the protection of cells against oxidative stress.
Some big claims there! And it does feel a little like being blinded by science.
The practical stuff
Where to buy it
You can of course by it from the Goop website but as it’s a US site I opted to buy it from UK stockist, Cult Beauty – GOOPGLOW Morning Skin Superpowder. It is available elsewhere though and a quick Google search will find other sellers.
How much does it cost?
There’s no getting away from it – it is expensive, even with any discount codes you can find. Full price is £54 for 30 sachets or £11 for five. I was able to get 10% off at Cult Beauty by signing up to their newsletter.
How to take it?
I have been taking it each morning (well nearly, I did miss a few days) with breakfast. It is best to take it with food. I simply added to a glass of water and gave it a good stir. The instructions say to use 250ml of water and that room temperature is best. It does take some quite vigorous stirring but does dissolve eventually.
Others have added it to their water bottle and sipped throughout the day.
What does it taste like?
It is orange and lemon verbena flavour and whilst it does taste of orange, the lemon verbena definitely comes through more. It’s not what I would call a taste sensation but nor is it unpleasant. If anything, it takes a little artificial and reminded me a little of Sunny D. A few times I added some ice to it and that did improve the taste.
Does the superpowder actually work?
I have to say that my skin doesn’t really seem to have improved that much. I certainly don’t have that sun-kissed glow I was hoping for. (And it is still raining!)
It is though hard to know for sure what impact it has had on my skin. I haven’t exactly been eating overly healthily this month. So perhaps it has reduced the impact that all the sneaky raiding of the Christmas chocolates would have had. And all the “it’s nearly Christmas” glasses of wine.
I have noticed though that my nails are much stronger – something that is no mean feat after two weekends stripping wallpaper!
Would I buy it again?
Not on a regular basis. I would though like to try it again when I am back on the healthy eating bandwagon. Just to give it a bit more of a fighting chance. For now though, I’ll stick to my £5 pack of Berocca!
I would love to hear anyone else’s experience of GOOPGLOW Morning Skin Superpowder to see if their’s was more transformative than mine.
I'd love to hear your thoughts
